Mohammad Kaif, a former cricketer, praised Shubman Gill, India’s young Test captain, for being so calm in the fourth Test against England in Manchester. Gill was criticized for being too aggressive at Lord’s, for trying to be like Virat Kohli. Then Gill changed his style and it worked.
Gill scored a match-winning hundred in the fourth innings while under pressure and helped India stay in the game and keep the series alive.
Kaif was impressed with how Gill carried himself and led the team at Old Trafford. In a video on his YouTube channel, Kaif said Gill was so calm whenever the camera was on him. He realized he was wrong to try to be like Virat Kohli and instead embraced his own calm self and it showed in his batting. He proved he has the temperament for Test cricket.
Many have noticed the change in Gill’s attitude. At Lord’s his heated exchange with Zak Crawley was forced. But in Manchester he let his batting and captaincy do the talking. His calmness helped him to focus while batting and set an example for the team.

After Gill’s match saving century, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir defended him. Speaking to the media, Gambhir slammed those who doubted Gill’s talent and leadership saying they don’t understand cricket.
He said the team always had faith in Gill even when he wasn’t scoring runs. Gambhir dismissed the captaincy pressure saying the 25-year-old is still focused and plays like a real batsman. His calm century helped India draw the Test and stay in the series.
