Gautam Gambhir, India’s coach, said the tour of England has been tough just like it has been in the past. He also thanked the team for the support.
India managed to draw in Manchester and stopped England from getting an unbeatable lead in the five-match series. Now they have one last chance to level the series when the fifth Test starts on Thursday in London. England is currently leading 2-1 having won in Leeds and Lord’s.
Touring here is always exciting and tough because of the history between our two countries, said Gambhir. We appreciate all the support we get every time we come to the UK.
Gambhir spoke at a function at India House in London on Monday evening. The team was welcomed by community leaders, parliamentarians and sports fans at a reception hosted by the High Commission of India.
Even though England is leading, India could have been 3-1 up if they had not let go at certain points.
Gambhir is happy with how the series has gone so far.
The last five weeks have been exciting for both the countries, said Gambhir. I think the kind of cricket played has made every fan happy. Both teams have fought hard and given it their all.
We have one week left. One last push to make. One final chance to make our country proud. Jai Hind, he said.

Vikram Doraiswami, India’s High Commissioner to the UK, said the team’s fighting spirit in the series shows the country’s resolve to overcome challenges.
This has been a great series, played with true sportsmanship. The best part is seeing Test cricket played as it should be – matches that last five full days, that are closely contested and that show cricket as a game played with passion for five days.
Having our team show their skills and the fighting spirit now linked with Team India is the spirit of the new India we are proud to represent, Doraiswami added.
