Abhimanyu Easwaran’s dad Ranganathan has stopped counting days and is now counting years since his son made his Test debut. Easwaran got his India call-up some time ago but hasn’t made the playing XI yet.
In 2021, Abhimanyu was called up twice by the BCCI as a standby player, once for the home Test series against England and later for the WTC final against New Zealand. His first official spot in the Indian team was in 2022 for the Test series against Bangladesh.
Speaking with TimesofIndia.com, Abhimanyu’s father asked why Karun Nair was picked over his son.
Ranganathan said he is keeping track of the years and it has been three years and that a player’s job is to score runs. He said Abhimanyu has done that. Ranganathan added that Karun Nair was not in the team while Abhimanyu did well before the BGT.
He also said he’s been talking to Abhimanyu to keep his spirits up.

Ranganathan said his son is a bit down, which is expected. Some players get picked for the Test team due to their IPL performance, but IPL scores shouldn’t count when picking the Test team. He added that Test selections should be based on Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy performances.
Abhimanyu hasn’t played in the last month. He scored two half-centuries against the England Lions as No. 3 before the Test series but Sai Sudharsan and Nair were chosen instead.
