Aman Sehrawat: Bronze at Men’s 57kg Wrestling
Aman aged 21 became the only male candidate who had qualified for the youngest freestyle male wrestler event at the Paris Olympic.
Aman Sehrawat had a strong start, dominating Vladimir Egorov of North Macedonia and Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania with impressive technical superiority wins.
Unfortunately he faced a tough challenge against the eventual gold medalist Rei Higuchi of Japan and lost the semi-final match. After losing it to him he bounced back impressively and defeated the Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico by score of 13-5 and secured a bronze medal.
India might not have performed extraordinarily but the efforts of players were commendable. Especially all the players who just missed the medal spot by one position, deserves all of our cheers and motivation to do better for future games. A great kudos to all the players who just finished at the fourth and to Vinesh Phogat dedication to win and part of the final of the olympics game of her category.
However, India left the Paris 2024 Olympics with more heartbreaks than cheers. India missed out on six potential medals, most by a whisker, with the athletes finishing fourth in their respective events. This included Lakshya Sen, Mirabai Chanu and Manu Bhaker, who could have bagged her third medal at the Games. Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification ahead of a historic final also added to India’s woes.
