After India’s incredible comeback on Day 5 of the final Test at The Oval, Mohammed Siraj spoke about the emotional highs and lows he faced because of his fielding error on Day 4. The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended in a 2-2 tie and Siraj gave it his all in the match.
In a video shared by the Indian Cricket Team on Instagram, Siraj, the hero of The Oval, opened up about his feelings.
I don’t know what I’m feeling right now, he said. Yesterday I was thinking about that dropped catch. I was like, ‘How did I do that?’ If I had caught that we wouldn’t be in this situation today. We would be relaxing in the room.
Prasidh Krishna gave India a chance to limit the damage Harry Brook could do.
Brook hit a pull shot off the first ball of the 35th over and Prasidh started celebrating as the ball went high in the air. Siraj positioned himself to take the catch but to his and India’s horror he stepped back and touched the boundary rope and turned a wicket into six runs.
He covered his face with his hands realising the gravity of his mistake. After being dropped on 19 Brook made the most of his second chance and scored 111 off 98 balls before getting caught by Siraj off Akash Deep’s bowling. This time Siraj didn’t make a mistake and took the catch safely.
God must have had a plan, he said. I must have done something right. That’s why he gave me another chance today and as you can see we got the result.
Despite the game changing error Siraj said he woke up with a lot of confidence that he could finish the job for the team which he eventually did.

When I woke up this morning I had a feeling I could do it. I could turn the game around. I had so much confidence I even looked up the word ‘believe’ on Google and set it as my phone wallpaper to remind myself I could do it, he explained.
So thank you God, he added.
Siraj whose game changing spell helped India get back into the match also spoke about the absence of Jasprit Bumrah who was not part of the team.I miss Jassi bhai because he would have made a big difference, Siraj said, about the absence of India’s main fast bowler.
Yes, exactly. I trust Jassi bhai and myself, he said.
On his 1113th ball of the series he bowled a perfect yorker and hit the stumps and India won by 6 runs. He finished with 5 wickets in the 2nd innings and 9 wickets in the match.
