Rishabh Pant was ruled out of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23-27 after he suffered a foot injury on the first day while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. He was also ruled out of the fifth Test at The Oval from July 31-Aug 4.
Last month, reports suggested he would be out for at least 6 weeks. A TOI report on August 7 said the 27-year-old, who last played a T20I for India against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on July 28, 2024, will not play in the 2025 Asia Cup. His participation in the 2 Test series against West Indies is also in doubt.
Pant’s performance as a player and captain for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025 was not great. He couldn’t lead the team to the playoffs as LSG finished 7th. He played 13 innings and scored 269 runs. His best was an unbeaten 118 against RCB.
Asia Cup 2025 is from September 9-28 in UAE and the 2 Test matches against West Indies are from October 2-14 in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
TOI report said Rishabh Pant won’t need surgery for the toe fracture he suffered in the 4th Test in Manchester. He will be out for at least 6 weeks, which means he will miss Asia Cup and potentially the West Indies series too.
Though Pant’s absence may not be a big deal for India in Asia Cup 2025 as he is not the preferred wicketkeeper-batter in white-ball cricket, his absence will be a setback for India in the 2 Test matches against West Indies.
Before his injury, Pant played 4 matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He scored 479 runs, including 2 centuries and 3 fifties.

Dhruv Jurel replaced Pant in the 5th Test at The Oval from July 31-Aug 4. If Pant is not fit, Jurel will be India’s wicketkeeper-batter in the West Indies series too. India’s Asia Cup 2025 starts on September 10 against UAE in Dubai, then against Pakistan on September 14 and against Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 18.
Super Four starts on September 20 and final is on September 28. Matches will be in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. India beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in 2023 final. They are the defending champions in this tournament.
