Aakash Chopra, a former India player, doesn’t think Bangladesh will make it to the 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) final. He said that while Bangladesh will give teams some trouble when they play at home, they’ll get thrashed when they tour Australia and South Africa.
Bangladesh is currently 5th in the WTC points table with 16.67% of the points. They recently lost a 2 match Test series to Sri Lanka 1-0 away.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra, the former India opener, said that Bangladesh won’t be in the running for the 2027 WTC final.
Chopra talked about other teams as contenders for the title and criticized the Bangladesh team for never making it to the final.
Chopra said he won’t even talk about Bangladesh because they never reach the final and people start looking at getting points when they play against Bangladesh, mostly when Bangladesh is touring. He did mention that Bangladesh definitely troubles teams when playing at home.
The numbers support his claims, Bangladesh has never made it to a WTC final, finished 7th in the last cycle with 31.25% of the points.
Chopra said that Bangladesh will make things difficult for visiting teams at home but he also said that South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka will beat them easily.
The cricket analyst said that Bangladesh will be South Africa’s easiest opponent in the cycle but games against England and New Zealand could still be tough.
In the same video Aakash Chopra mentioned that Sri Lanka has an easy schedule in the 2025-27 WTC cycle.

He said that Sri Lanka can be deceptive because their home series are against India, South Africa and Bangladesh. Their schedule is good because their away tours are to New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan and they should do well in West Indies and Pakistan.
The cricket commentator thinks that Sri Lanka has a better chance than South Africa, the defending champions, to reach the 2027 WTC final.
Chopra said that even if Sri Lanka struggles in the 2 away matches in New Zealand, they have India, South Africa and Bangladesh at home, so it’s not a bad schedule at all and Sri Lanka actually has decent chances, better than South Africa’s.In short Aakash Chopra has ruled out West Indies from reaching 2027 WTC final. He said he is not being disrespectful but doesn’t think they will qualify no matter who they play.
About South Africa, the defending champions, Chopra said they will struggle to qualify for 2027 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final.
