Vaibhav Suryavanshi has had a busy summer. After his good show in IPL earlier this year, the 14-year-old continued to do well in India’s U-19 tour of England. When he came back home, he practiced with Rajasthan Royals. Then BCCI called him to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru on August 10.
According to MyKhel, Vaibhav will undergo a special training program by BCCI, working on skills and game situations. His first coach Manish Ojha said that BCCI is getting Vaibhav ready to replace the older players who are retiring. This training is not just for the Australia tour.
BCCI is planning ahead. As senior players retire, we need to get the next set of young players ready. Vaibhav’s training is part of that plan. We select players and prepare them for international cricket, he said.
All this about Vaibhav comes at a time when people are wondering what will Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma do next. Dainik Jagran said that the Australia tour might be their last international games. Whether they play in ODIs and 2027 World Cup depends on how they do in domestic games. But a BCCI official told PTI that BCCI is now thinking about Asia Cup and preparing for 2023 T20 World Cup. They won’t make such big decisions without thinking.

Recently RR captain Sanju Samson talked about what he first thought of Suryavanshi. He thought the 14-year-old batter was just lucky.
I saw him hit a six. I thought he got lucky but he kept going. The quality of his shots surprised me, Samson said on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube show, Kutti Stories With Ash.
Ashwin said when he bowled to Suryavanshi during IPL 2025, It’s not just his hitting. I bowled one ball around the stumps and he hit it to the covers. Then I bowled it slow to see if he would go big. But he waited for the ball and hit it to mid-on for a single. I thought, ‘Where did this kid come from?’ He’s 14. I started in IPL 18 years ago. He wasn’t even born yet. It was crazy.Suryavanshi played for RR in 2025 season and was one of the top performers. In 7 games he scored 252 runs, a century and a fifty. His century against GT in Jaipur was special.
