The Buchi Babu Tournament is all set to commence from 15th August and will continue till September 11. In recent times the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has revealed that this league will be played this year as well. The Buchi Babu tournament made a comeback after a six year break last year. The matches in this will be played in a format of 4 day red ball format similar to the Ranji Trophy and will provide the teams a chance to practice before the start of the domestic 2024/25 season.
A total of 12 teams would be seen participating in the tournament and the matches would be played in the league stage and then will be followed by the Playoffs and a finale. The league stage of the Buchi Babu Tournament was played in a total of three rounds that would take place in Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, and Natham.

Buchi Babu Tournament 2024 Teams and Captains
Buchi Babu tournament has a total of 12 teams participating in the league and is led by experienced captains. The reigning champions, Madhya Pradesh—who clinched the title last year with a 250-run victory over Delhi—are in Group A, sharing the stage with Jharkhand and Hyderabad.
In Group B, the lineup features Railways, Gujarat, and TNCA President’s XI. Group C is home to Mumbai, the current Ranji Trophy champions, alongside Haryana and TNCA XI. Group D brings together Jammu & Kashmir, Baroda, and Chhattisgarh. The top two teams from each group will move on to the semi-finals.

Buchi Babu Tournament 2024: Squads
The official squads for the teams of the Buchi Babu Tournament are released. There is news of Ishan Kishan to play from the Jharkhand team and Suryakumar Yadav to join Mumbai for the Buchi Babu tournament matches. Among the new rumors there is also news of KL Rahul to play in this but no confirmation has been made to his presence in the tournament.
Buchi Babu Tournament 2024: Venue
This tournament would take place in the 4 different locations that are Tirunelveli, Salem, Coimbatore and Natham. The teams will play on different grounds at these locations. The first matches of the first round would take on each location out of these four, where the first match would be played in Tirunelveli between Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Then the matches would be followed as mentioned under the match schedule and fixture table.

The tournament will follow a round robin format and also the playoffs method. After playing in 12 different league matches the teams will get into the semifinals stage. In this knockout stage the table toppers of each group would go against each other in the two semi finals. The first semi final will be played against the Group A Table Topper vs Group B Table Topper and the second semi-final will be played between the Group C Table Topper vs Group D Table Topper.
