Rohit Sharma, the ODI captain is heading to the nets at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for a fitness check before the season starts. This will be his first time at the CoE since he stepped away from Test cricket.
Sharma last played in the IPL 2025 where Mumbai Indians were knocked out by Punjab Kings. He had a good season, scored over 400 runs. Now he’s gearing up for his next stint with Team India.
Yo-Yo Test for Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and others
Sharma along with Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur will be taking the Yo-Yo Test.

They will also undergo Dexa Scans to check their bone density and routine blood work as part of the fitness assessment. A BCCI source told The Indian Express that these tests are mandatory for all contracted players.
The BCCI official said all players have to take a fitness test before the season, it’s part of the deal. These tests let the COE know what players need to work on. They were given exercises to do at home because there was a long break after the England Test series.
No word on Virat Kohli’s fitness test
Still no word on Virat Kohli who finished his Test career in May 2025. Kohli also quit T20Is after India’s World Cup win in 2024 and has been in the UK with his family since the IPL ended in early June.
Kohli recently posted pictures of himself training in London. Kohli and Sharma last played together internationally during the 2025 Champions Trophy where India led by Sharma broke a 12 year drought of ICC ODI trophies.
Kohli was India’s second highest run scorer in the tournament with 218 runs in 5 innings at an average of 54.50. Sharma scored 180 runs in 5 matches at an average of 36.00.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might play in India A ODIs against Australia A
Sharma and Kohli might play for India A in a 3 match ODI series against Australia A in Kanpur on September 30, October 3 and October 5. This series is before Team India’s tour of Australia which starts on October 19.
India will play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is with the ODIs in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on October 19, 23 and 25 respectively. Both Sharma and Kohli haven’t played since IPL 2025.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepped away from Test cricket in May 2025 and will focus on ODIs. They might play till 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
