The Plunket Shield of 2025-26 will be New Zealand’s premier first-class cricket tournament. It entails the best provincial clubs competing in the four-day format. Traditionally, this edition will be the highest standard of red-ball cricket played on the domestic level, shaping players for International Test Cricket.
Six teams will be competing: Auckland, Canterbury, Central Stags (Central Districts), Northern Brave (Northern Districts), Otago Volts, and Wellington Firebirds. Each team will play a round-robin format with matches spread over several months; the champion will be decided according to points.
The points system follows the Plunket Shield rules:
- Win: 12 points
- Draw: 4 points
- Loss: 0 points
- Bonus points (batting and bowling) are awarded based on first-innings performance.
