The all-rounder Amanjot Kaur came in with a striking comeback after having a knee injury in a comfortable win for India against Sri Lanka in the first match of the Women’s World Cup. Amanjot was involved in a vital 103-run partnership with Deepti Sharma, which saved the Indian innings from a situation where they had fallen to 124 for 6.
Amanjot scored 57 runs off 56 balls before returning to claim a wicket. “I knew Deepti was with me. I knew how to take full help from her and take the innings ahead,” said Amanjot.
“I took six balls to settle down, but happy with my performance. I rarely get a chance to bat; I got the chance and I enjoyed it. I’m sure Deepti was also very happy to bat,” added the Mohali cricketer.

When asked if there was pressure after playing some dot balls, she laughed and said, “Sher jab do kadam peeche leta hai, toh iska matlab ye nahi wo dar gaya (If a lion takes two steps back, it does not mean that he is afraid).”
“If I would have played slowly and gotten out, then people would have said that I had wasted so many balls and didn’t get any runs. That is how cricket is. At least from my side, none of the deliveries were wasted; they were under pressure for the next batter. Because by the end of the day, you have to put up something on the scoreboard to defend,” she added.
Amanjot expressed that the journey of the tournament is still long. “Going to take it game by game. Day 1, we did well. We won. And now, we have eight more days to play well for,” she stated.
