The dispute between the two countries has been carried over to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) following the yet unfinished 2025 Asia Cup. Reportedly, the BCCI is contemplating an effort to get rid of PCB Chairman and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, with respect to accusations of Naqvi having violated protocol and also having neglected to fulfill his responsibilities.
India is the title holder, having been made so in the final staged in Dubai on September 28. However, the Indian team was not given the trophy. The trophy presently lies with PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi. India refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan’s Home Minister on grounds of a terrorist strike in Pahalgam on April 22 and the sudden escalation in the already existing tension between the two countries.

According to some sources, the Indian authorities are now gearing up to lodge a formal complaint against the UAE administration with regard to the entire trophy controversy. The Indian government wants an inquiry into Naqvi’s actions. It is alleged that Naqvi politicised cricket administration and stepped outside the bounds of impartiality.
Mohsin Naqvi did apologize to the BCCI at the ACC meeting of September 30, but the matter did not end there. Naqvi said that if India wants this trophy, then their captain Suryakumar Yadav would have to come and collect it from the ACC office in Dubai. This condition was outrightly rejected by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, stating that under no such circumstance will India accept the trophy. He called it highly regrettable and contrary to the spirit of the game.
