Following a massive blow to Australia, Test captain Pat Cummins is considered highly unlikely to play any of the five Tests against England in the forthcoming Ashes series. The stern warrior today is running a race against time to get fit for the very important series which has historical connotations for Australia and England.
One should note that Pat Cummins had gone down with a back stress injury during the West Indies tour and hence missed out on the subsequent international assignments. Since he did not even make the selection for the ongoing tour of New Zealand, Cummins finds himself out of the Australian squads that shall take on the touring Indian side in eight white-ball matches on home ground.
While Cummins was looking at the possibility of returning to competitive cricket in the Ashes 2025, his back injury now seems set to put a pause on his comeback. Following a recent scan, it seems that Cummins is yet to fully recover from the injury, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

As the report shades the light that the veteran right-arm speedster does stand a very small chance to pull up stumps for the first Test in Perth, which is due on November 21. Even worse is the fact that the injury stands some chance to put him off the whole Ashes 2025 series.
Should Cummins be declared out of the Ashes on medical grounds, the charge of taking Australia against England shall fall upon the experienced batsman Steve Smith. Having led Australia on 40 occasions, Smith has achieved 23 victories and suffered 10 defeats. On the other hand, Boland, ready for every moment, is keen to take Cummin’s place and head up the pace attack alongside the charismatic help of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in Ashes 2025.
