“We had a conversation,” Surya told reporters on Tuesday. “On the day I heard about his injury, I called him. Then I got to know he did not have his phone, so I called the physiotherapist, Kamlesh Jain. But I have been in contact with him for the past two days. He has been responding. Agar woh reply kar raha hai (If he is able to reply over the phone), that means he is stable.
He also mentioned that Shreyas Iyer’s healing is gradually getting better but the doctors will still be watching him for several more days.
“It’s a positive sign…the doctors are already there. They will monitor him for a few days. But he has been responding and communicating with all, which is nice,” he stated in the pre-match press conference.
As per earlier reports, the BCCI medical team in Sydney, together with specialists from India, are keeping a close watch on Iyer’s recovery. The 30-year-old batsman will stay in Sydney until the doctors declare he is fit to fly.
