More than 100 police officers in Punjab, Pakistan, have been let go. They refused to do their jobs during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. A report from the Press Trust of India (PTI) says these officers missed work multiple times or outright declined their duties. They were supposed to ensure the safety of the teams traveling between Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and their hotels. The Inspector General of Police for Punjab, Usman Anwar, has taken notice. He’s pushing for strict action against those officers. He stressed that security for international events is crucial. It’s not clear why the officers didn’t…

The ex-chairman of the PCB, Najam Sethi, has, indirectly, pointed out the former Prime Minister Imran Khan for causing the downfall of cricket in Pakistan. Sethi, who served the PCB from December 2022 to June 2023, lamented in a post on X that a country has a right to be so angry considering how the national team performed: Champions Trophy 2025 hosts Pakistan bow out of the competition after back-to-back defeats. “The cricket fraternity says Pakistan has hit rock bottom. How come a cricket team that was once no 1 in T20s (2018) and Tests (2016) and ODIs (1990 and…
Star India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul stated he hates practicing against Mohammed Shami because the pacer does not let the batter settle in, not just in the match but in practice, too. In conversations on 25 Questions by ESPNCricinfo, Rahul was asked which bowler he hates facing in the nets, to which the wicketkeeper answered Shami, smiling. This is interesting as records indicate Shami has generally got the better of Rahul in T20s. Rahul has only scored 31 runs from 28 balls that he has faced against Shami in three seasons of the IPL and has been out twice in the…
A batting great of South Africa, Hashim Amla has termed India’s Shubman Gill to be the ‘next big thing’ in international cricket next to Rishabh Pant and South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton. Gill has been in a terrific run of form, and is presently ranked the number-one batter in the one day format. He carried that form into the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where he scored a hundred against Bangladesh and followed it up with a 46 against Pakistan in Dubai. “Just about everywhere you look, Shubham Gill for India; Rishabh Pant has been there for a while now; Ryan Rickelton…
The greatest one-day international (ODI) batter remains a topic of ceaseless debate. Is it Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Viv Richards, or Virat Kohli? For legendary Australian Ponting, however, there is a clear winner. As one of the greatest batters in cricket history, he has played with or against some legends of the cricketing world, including the great Sachin Tendulkar himself. In Ponting’s opinion, however, no better player has dressed for 50 overs than Kohli. It is interesting to note that Ponting’s massive praise comes soon after Kohli has extended his record to score a whopping 51 ODI centuries in helping…
It is quite an interesting study of the advancing mutual feeling of Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand against the ICC events, since the Kiwi lad scored a century on his Champions Trophy debut. Ravindra returned to New Zealand’s playing XI after missing a previous match against Pakistan because of an injury. The batter settled in patiently to score his century in yet another ICC outing. Consequently, Ravindra broke multiple records. He is the first batter in the history of the game to have scored a century in both his ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy debuts. Because of Ravindra hitting…
Anticipation built in respect to Kohli’s tough ODI records, and together with fellow ex-England captain Hussain, Michael Atherton believed that in all likelihood Kohli is probably the best batsman in the history of the format. Kohli scored an unbeaten 100 off a masterclass innings, his 51st ODI century, to steer India to a comfortable six-wicket win over its arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match in Dubai on Sunday.”In a run-chase in 50-over cricket, I don’t think there’s been anybody better throughout the history of the game, really. 51 centuries is an unbelievable number,” said Atherton, who captained England in…
Australia captain Pat Cummins was unable to join the team for the Champions Trophy in India-event-turned-Championship, as he is sinfully hampered by injury. In his absence, the ODI World champions were represented by Steve Smith for the record chase, against the Englishmen, during the Ashes-off. The ICC Hybrid Model allowed for the 2025 Champions Trophy to be played, with India’s matches taking place in Dubai. According to an agreement, tif any tournaments are conducted on global forums, the BCCI, PCB and ICC have agreed not to allow each other’s teams into each other’s countries. India will play in Dubai for…
There was a huge security breach during the ongoing Champions Trophy in Pakistan when an alleged supporter of an Islamist political party managed to enter the ground at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during a Group A match between New Zealand and Bangladesh. New Zealand’s run-chase saw Rachin and Tom Latham in the middle for the tourists when the incident happened. Ravindra completed a fine…
The slow bowling in the middle phase of the game off the all-rounder Michael Bracewell played a huge part in New Zealand’s five-wicket win over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy game in Rawalpindi on Monday, according to skipper Mitchell Santner. The uniformity of results helped sail New Zealand into the semifinals alongside India, while hosts Pakistan and Bangladesh were kicked out from the mega event. Rachin Ravindra (112) and Michael Bracewell (4/26) were the two stars for New Zealand on the night. “Feels good to qualify. Knew that Bangladesh would be a challenge,” Santner said in the post-match presentation ceremony.…
