Retiring from One-Day Internationals Glenn Maxwell has opted to pursue T20 cricket instead. Australia will thus have to look at some new talent to fill his place in the side. Here are some names that could be picked:
1. Tim David
David has been a fixture in the Australian T20 team but has played only a handful of ODIs, his last game being in 2023. With Maxwell now retired, the door for David to re-enter the ODI setup is wide open. In his List-A career spanning 20 matches, he has amassed 790 runs at an average of 60.76 and an impressive strike rate of 120.06. He showed great maturity in IPL 2025, being the reliable finisher for RCB. David carries the bonus of being able to bowl some off-spin, which might add to his utility value.

2. Ashton Turner
Turner has had a reputation of a cool and reliable finishing bowling white-ball cricketer up until 2019. He made a lot of noise when he performed against India in 2019. Nevertheless, following a series of ups and downs, he was dropped by selectors, especially with Maxwell and Stoinis a great finishing combo. Yet he has continued performing for Perth Scorchers and Western Australia, steering his team to victories on several occasions with his finishing efforts. Now, with Smith, Maxwell, and Stoinis all gone, Turner may well be called on to lend his experience. He now has 192 runs in nine ODIs at an average of 32 and a strike rate of 120. In List-A cricket, he holds 1834 runs at a strike rate of 96.52.

3. Beau Webster
Beau Webster has found spectacular form for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League. Scoring 1800 plus runs in T20s and 25 wickets from 49 innings put in the tall cricketer, while 1334 runs and 49 wickets in List A cricket is what talent looks like. These all-round skills make him adjudged as a potent middle-order candidate.
