As Bangladesh prepares for the Asia Cup 2025, the young leg spinner Rishad Hossain remains a constant topic of discussion. Though only recently introduced to international cricket, Rishad has shown definite promise against strong teams with powerful batting talents, such as Afghanistan.
Yet, like in reality, in demigod stature, he may still have to best an Asia Cup game against Afghanistan. But in his recent ODI and T20 International expeditions, it is quite clear that he has a lot to offer.

T20-wise, Rishad was the man of the spot, really impressing with his spell of 3/30 off 4 against Afghanistan in 2024. Alongside being economical at 6.50, having a strike rate of 8.0 is what really makes Rishad Hossain the game-winner.

An Opportunity for Rishad Hossain to Shine
Having never played an Asia Cup tie against Afghanistan before, Rishad is a member of the 2025 Asia Cup squad. The T20 player with the ability to turn games around, coupled with the fact that he’s increasingly improving in ODIs, may well be the moment where he confirms a permanent place in the playing eleven.
His leg-spin might lose its rhythm on occasion and go awry, but these slow Asian pitches can just work in favor of his leg-spin, including his variations like a googly or a flipper.
