Ashutosh Sharma took the cricketing world by storm when he slammed an 11-ball fifty in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He broke Yuvraj Singh’s record of fastest fifty by an Indian in T20s, and the IPL franchises took notice of it.
Within a few months, Sharma landed a bid from Punjab Kings and showcased his power-hitting in the IPL 2024. The Madhya Pradesh cricketer is here to boss bowlers in the IPL.
Ashutosh Sharma was bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 3.80 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. Starting with a base price of 30 lakh, the bidding quickly heated up between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and DC. The price reached 1.50 crore before PBKS entered the bidding. DC and PBKS fought it out, and after some back and forth, DC secured Ashutosh for 3.80 crore. He had previously been an Impact Player for PBKS in the last season.

Early Debut in IPL Career
Ashutosh Sharma’s IPL debut came in an unusual way, but he had an ‘impactful’ outing. He got off the mark in the tournament as an impact player.
Sharma’s debut came against Gujarat Titans on April 4, 2024, in Ahmedabad. Punjab Kings brought him in as an impact substitute player while chasing an impossible target of 200 runs.
When Sharma walked in Punjab were 150 for six and further needed 50 runs in 4.3 overs. But the right-hander changed the dynamics of the game with his 31 runs off 17 balls, helping Punjab win the match.

Ashutosh Sharma Performance in IPL 2024
After a rocking start in his debut IPL match, Sharma repeated such performances in a few more matches, putting up quick cameos while coming down the order.
Sharma smashed his maiden IPL fifty coming to bat in a crunch situation against Mumbai Indians. He scored 61 off 28 while chasing a 193-run target, though he couldn’t take Punjab over the ropes.
Overall, in IPL 2024, Sharma scored 189 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 167.25.
