The deadline for announcing the player retentions ahead of the IPL 2025 is approaching fast. With that, the excitement is building up between IPL fans.
Everyone is eager to find out which players will stay back and which will go into the auction. The franchises must be busy figuring out the deals, but they need to finalise them before the deadline set by the IPL Governing Council (IPL GC).

So what’s the IPL 2025 retention deadline?
The IPL Governing Council has set a deadline in front of all ten franchises to submit the list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Teams will have to make the final submissions before 5 PM on October 31.
What are the IPL 2025 retention rules?
The IPL GC has come up with new retention rules ahead of the upcoming player auction. According to the new guidelines, all teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players.
The franchises have a choice of using the combination of retentions or right-to-match cards to keep a player in the squad. Among the retentions, a maximum of five players can be capped, while two can be uncapped players.
The IPL GC has also reintroduced an old rule, allowing the Indian players with no BCCI contract or no international match in the last five years to be considered uncapped.
