The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended up in the seventh position in the standings during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season 2025. They will face a tough time in the IPL 2026 auction where they will have to make some changes in their team.
Some of the players may request for a release and would rather be in the list of LSG Released Players 2026 instead of the LSG Retention list. This could be a win-win situation for both, as the team would have more money in their budget, and the players could attract higher bids in the auction.
Now, let’s check some of the LSG players who might want a release prior to the auction.
Players Who Could Ask For Release From LSG Before IPL 2026 Auction
David Miller
David Miller could possibly be one of the players of LSG who would request a release before the IPL 2026 auction. He was acquired by LSG for INR 7.5 crore in the IPL 2025 auction after being let go by Gujarat Titans.
In IPL 2025, he played 11 matches and scored 153 runs averaging 30.60 with a strike rate of 127.49. He could not deliver as anticipated and his batting position was also not consistent as he batted at number five or lower. That is why he might want to be on the list of players released by LSG in 2026 rather than on the LSG retention list.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi was LSG’s first pick at INR 11 crores ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. He had a disappointing season in the league, where he played 11 matches but only managed to grab nine wickets and maintained an economy rate of 10.83.
Besides him, LSG also has Digvesh Rathi, who performed exceptionally well last season and efficiently handled the role of Bishnoi in the team. The franchise might consider releasing him before the IPL 2026 auction due to increase in the price of a specialist bowler. Moreover, there is a likelihood that Bishnoi may even request to be included in the LSG released players 2026 list instead of the retention list.
Avesh Khan
Avesh Khan was picked up by LSG at INR 9.75 crores in the IPL 2025 auction after getting released by Rajasthan Royals. After he had knee surgery, his first match of the season missed, but then he played all of the remaining 13 matches. Nevertheless, he finished the season with just 13 wickets and an economy rate of 10.28, which made it a season not up to his standards.
Avesh may ask not to be in the LSG Retention list ahead of the auction. This could be a win-win situation for both parties as LSG would then have more money in their kitty while Avesh could seek a fresh start and hope for a bigger bid in next season’s auction.
