With the second edition of the 2024–2026 ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League, the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup has started to take shape.
The 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup is a quadrennial ODI tournament organized by the ICC. In the previous ICC World Cup edition, Australia defeated India and secured their 6th ICC World Cup Trophy 2023. For the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, 10 teams participated including host India.
For the next 14th edition of the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, the stage will be set in South Africa, and Zimbabwe co-hosts along with Namibia. This will be the second time South Africa and Zimbabwe host the ICC’s most prominent event while Namibia will have the experience for the first time.
According to the ICC’s World Cup qualification rules after 2023 the host teams will automatically qualify for the next ICC World Cup. This means we have two full members who are direct qualifiers for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2027- South Africa and Zimbabwe.

2027 ICC ODI World Cup No. of Teams
One major change in the upcoming 2027 World Cup is the expansion of the number of participating teams. There will be 14 teams who will partake in the quadrennial event including three hosts. This expansion shows the growing popularity of cricket in the past few years. The participation of four more teams will enrich the tournament as well as increase the fan base across the nations.
2027 ICC World Cup Qualification
The qualification for ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027 includes several series results including the 2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, League 2, and Qualifier Playoffs. 36 teams will have to go through a no. of qualification series mentioned above from all over the globe. In the end, only 14 teams qualified for the 2027 CWC tournament. The selection of the 14 teams is divided as below-
- 2 – South Africa and Zimbabwe are direct qualifiers as full member Hosts, qualified on November 16, 2021
- 8 – Top 8 ICC Men’s ODI team rankings excluding hosts qualifying on 31 March 2027
- 4 – The top four finalists of the 2027 Cricket World Cup Qualifier

Although Namibia is a co-host of the ICC CWC 2027 there is no guarantee of direct entry into the tournament because it’s not a ICC Full Member. So it is only fair to go through the whole ICC CWC qualification process to enter legitimately.
The ICC marquee event will take place mostly in South Africa with some fixtures will be co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia in October and November 2027.
