The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to start on February 14, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Gujarat Giants in Vadodara. Several star players are ruled out because of injury, including Sophie Molineux, Asha Sobhana, Kate Cross, and a few others. Ellyse Perry and Shreyanka Patil are still recovering and are not 100% fit.
Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney will also miss the tournament due to a calf injury. South African batter Laura Wolvaardt has replaced her in the squad, while Ashleigh Gardner has been appointed as the new captain. Ausssie Alyssa Healy will also train the Warriors in this cash-rich league while Deepti Sharma is set to replace her as team-captain.
It is important to note that the five teams will play each other twice in the league phase and the top three will qualify for the playoffs.
The team that finishes first shall be awarded a place in the final, while the teams finishing second and third will take part in an Eliminator on March 13 to decide who else is in the final. The final of the tournament has been scheduled for March 15 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
