According to the South African cricketing legend AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli still has many good years ahead of him in the game of cricket and the 2027 ODI World Cup would shoot as a perfect ending to his ODI career which is full of honors. Virat, who has already taken the decision of retiring from Test and Twenty20 International cricket, was recently a part of the three-match ODI series against Australia. He was out in the first two matches and then played a match-winning unbeaten knock of 74 runs to help India win by nine wickets in the last game.
Kohli’s getting out for two pairs of ducks in the first two ODIs of the series brought upon him utter criticism as people questioned if he would still be in the limelight going into the 2027 World Cup or not. To the defense of his ex-RCB mate, De Villiers said that Kohli has changed the game for good and that he should be backed continuously no matter how he decides to pave a path through the rest of his glorious career.
“I want to remind you guys that’s the kind of player you want to celebrate. Allow him to find his balance in life towards the backend of his career. Just celebrate him. He has changed the game forever. He deserves a bit of a ‘thank’, and hopefully you will play for another five years; if you don’t, we are right behind you,” De Villiers expressed his views on his YouTube channel.
AB de Villiers has a very good relationship with Kohli and thinks the batting king might be seen playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the announcement of his international retirement.
“In my opinion, the 2027 World Cup will be his final go at the cherry on the cake on a finish to his career. The IPL is a different story. We might see him go for three or four or maybe even five years. It does not take a lot out of you, even if it is a very intense tournament.”
” You might get ready for the duration of two to three months, yet a World Cup is a four-year cycle. Major hype and it is a big draining process for the body and mind and the little corner where you have been trying to catch up on your family time. “We have often heard Virat say how critical that is for him,” De Villiers remarked.
Virat Kohli will now be seen during the three-match ODI series with South Africa that will commence on November 30 and start in Ranchi.
