Glenn McGrath, the fast bowling legend, is very clear on who will come out on top in the next Ashes series in Australia. As the excitement builds for this big cricket event, McGrath, an Ashes legend himself, is predicting a 5-0 win for Australia.
If that happens, it will be the first time since 2013-14 that Australia have won all five Tests in an Ashes series. England haven’t won in Australia since 2011 and McGrath thinks that trend will continue in this series which will go for three months from November to January.
McGrath, who holds the record for most wickets taken by a fast bowler in Ashes history with 157, is very confident about Australia’s chances. On BBC Radio 5 Live, McGrath joked about his prediction saying he couldn’t give any other than a 5-0 win for Australia.
Australia won 4-0 the last time England toured in 2021-22. Under Pat Cummins’ leadership, Australia have lost only two of their last 15 home Tests, winning 11 and drawing two.
McGrath said Australia’s batting lineup has some issues, especially in the top three. Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green and Marnus Labuschagne aren’t at their best and Sam Konstas is still trying to cement his place as David Warner’s replacement.
He also said England’s bowling needs to improve. McGrath thinks the key battle will be between England’s top order and Australia’s bowlers, singling out Joe Root and Harry Brook as players to watch.

McGrath said this series could be big for Root as he has never performed well in Australia, never scored a century. He seems to want to play well and is in good form. Joe Root has scored 892 Test runs in Australia, including nine fifties but has never scored a century, his highest score being 89. He averages 35.68 in Australia compared to his career average of 51.29.
McGrath also said the Ashes series will test England’s Bazball approach under coach Brendon McCullum and captain Stokes. He said he likes to see sportspeople play without fear. That’s what Baz is trying to instill in the England team. He wants to see more accountability and a better mental approach to the game. But he’s excited. England arrive in Australia in early November with the first Test in Perth on November 21. Then it’s Brisbane for a day-night Test on December 4, Adelaide for its first day Ashes Test since 2013 on December 17. Then a break and the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and the New Year’s Test in Sydney on January 4.
