After India’s draw against England in the 4th Test at Manchester, Ravichandran Ashwin slammed England captain Ben Stokes for his reaction when Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja decided to bat on instead of accepting an early draw. Ashwin said if he was the captain, he would have made England bowl all their remaining overs.
At the end of the Manchester Test, Jadeja declined Stokes’ offer to shake hands and chose to bat on with Sundar to get their centuries. England then bowled spin, even part-timer Harry Brook was bowling seemingly effortless balls hoping to get a quick end to avoid giving India a lead after conceding 311 runs.
TV cameras caught Stokes taunting Jadeja about scoring his century against Brook. Zak Crawley also said Jadeja should have batted faster. Ashwin asked on his YouTube channel why England was trying to deny Jadeja and Sundar their centuries out of frustration. He joked that Jadeja would have faced even Andrew Flintoff or Darren Gough.
Ashwin said England was showing double standards. He said if he was the captain, he would have bowled all the remaining overs no matter what. He said both Washington and Jadeja had earned their centuries.
