With the Asia Cup 2025 just around the corner, scheduled to start on September 9 in the UAE, the team selectors are under the scanner. The Ajit Agarkar led committee is expected to announce the squad in the third week of August.
Several spots are still open. Some players including team captain Suryakumar Yadav are working on their way back from a sports hernia injury. On a positive note Suryakumar Yadav seems to be recovering well and is expected to be ready for the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav had surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany in June 2025. He is currently recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where he is getting back to full fitness. Under the guidance of the medical team at NCA Surya has been working on building his strength, improving his movement and refining his batting skills.
Team captain recently posted a video of himself training and batting at the NCA. Reports had suggested that his recovery was going smooth but a recent update has raised doubts about Suryakumar’s participation in the Asia Cup 2025.
According to Rohit Juglan of Revsportz who posted on social media platform X, fans should expect last minute changes to the squad. He also mentioned that Suryakumar Yadav has gone to Japan for a short trip.
Juglan wrote, Things were looking good till yesterday regarding the fitness of one or two players but there might be last minute change to the Asia Cup squad. Team captain Suryakumar Yadav is in Japan for a couple of days. Let’s wait for the final decision.
