Rohit Sharma is far and away one of the best white-ball cricketers to have ever played. At the age of 38, this right-handed batsman from Mumbai holds the record for the most runs in T20Is and has crossed the mark of 11,000 in ODI runs.
Rohit made his T20I retirement announcement on June 29, 2024, right after showcasing India’s rise to trap the T20 World Cup, with Test retirement following on May 7, 2025. However, he remains active in ODIs as he aims to appear in the 2027 World Cup.
With his last ODI match held on March 9, 2025, against New Zealand, Rohit scored 76 runs and was awarded Player of the Match in the Champions Trophy final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He remains a strong player still, but a report in Hindustan Times on June 9 revealed the BCCI thought he would retire from ODIs after the Champions Trophy triumph.
No negotiations have taken place between Rohit and the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar about his continuation in the ODI format.

A source in the BCCI said that they thought he would retire from ODIs after the Champions Trophy win. Rohit did struggle a bit with his form during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy but played some crucial innings in the Champions Trophy, silencing all his critics.
He’s the only captain who has managed to make it to the finals of all the four ICC tournaments. Rohit last played for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and scored 418 runs in 15 matches, including four half-centuries. During the Eliminator against Gujarat Titans on March 30, he also completed 7,000 runs in the IPL and became the first Indian to hit 300 sixes in the league.
