BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia denied that any discussion was ever held regarding withdrawals from this year’s Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournaments. It was being reported that India would pass on the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup to be played in Sri Lanka next month and the Men’s Asia Cup in September.
“We have seen news about BCCI deciding not to take part in the Asia Cup and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. This is completely false. BCCI hasn’t even talked about these upcoming events, let alone written to the ACC,” said Saikia to Cricbuzz. He continued, “Right now, we’re focusing on the ongoing IPL and the upcoming series with England for both men and women.”

He also said an announcement regarding the ACC events would be made later. “The Asia Cup or any ACC event hasn’t been discussed at any level. So, any news on that is just speculation. BCCI will share updates when there’s something to announce about ACC events,” Saikia went on.
Indian Express had earlier reported, citing a BCCI source, that the Board is considering non-participation in events organized by a body headed by a Pakistani minister following increasing tensions between India and Pakistan after the terrorist attack. Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister of Pakistan, is the Chairman of ACC.

“The source further said, “The Indian team can’t play in a tournament organized by the ACC with a chairman who is a Pakistani minister. That’s the feeling among the people. We’ve telephoned ACC from here and told them of our withdrawal from the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and therefore their days of participation are uncertain. We are always in touch with the Indian government.”
In any case, India will host the Men’s Asia Cup this September.
