The BCCI, which is the governing body for cricket in India, has apparently sent a legal notice to the folks behind The Grade Cricketer podcast. They aren’t thrilled about the podcast using IPL logos and images in their videos. This podcast is hosted by Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, both Australians. The notice from the BCCI prompted them to take down all their IPL-related videos.
The Age reported that the BCCI believed the use of IPL images in the podcast was for commercial purposes and not for reporting on the game. It is worth mentioning that sponsorships for an Indian grocery delivery service appeared in at least one of The Grade Cricketer’s videos, which might raise a few eyebrows.

“On Saturday night, Australian time, we were served with quite a nice legal letter regarding some aspects of our content in respect of this ongoing cricket season. It was therefore our decision to take the videos down.”
Mr. Perry assured the listeners that they were still committed to covering the IPL, adding: “We intend to cover IPL as usual. Actually, there will be even more in the next few weeks, as we are going to India.” He also explained that they’ve been doing the podcast for five years, and while they are aware of what they can do, they now have a clearer idea of what they can or cannot.
Their daily show, “The Big IPL Breakfast,” may be in the market for a new name owing to developments of the day.
