Ben Duckett thinks England has a good shot at defeating India in their five-match Test series starting June 20. England and India drew 2-2 the last time India visited, but India, led by Rohit Sharma, won 4-1 in 2024. Still, Duckett is sure England will do well this time, saying the conditions at home are different, and they’re prepared to compete hard.
India is a tough team to play on their own turf, but I think we should be able to beat them here. It should be a good series, Duckett said to Mail Sport.
He also said that facing Jasprit Bumrah will be tough, but he’s ready for it. Duckett mentioned he’s played Bumrah in a five-Test series before and knows what to expect and that Mohammed Shami will be just as tough to play against. He believes if he can survive the first few overs, he’ll be able to score runs.
I’ve played him in a five-Test series before. I know what he’s going to try to do, so I know what he’s capable of. Nothing he does will shock me. It’ll be difficult, and Mohammed Shami is just as dangerous as Bumrah with the red ball. But if I can get past that first spell, I think I can score some runs, he said.
Duckett has been playing well for England in Test matches, but he only averages 27.76 against India in this format. It will be interesting to see if he can play better this time and if India can finally seal a win in England. The first Test match is in Headingley, followed by Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and Kennington Oval.
