Cameron Green is making a comeback to Test cricket after a long 15-month absence. He’ll be in Australia’s team as a specialist batsman for the WTC 2025 final against South Africa, starting on June 11. Green is flexible about coming in at three down, something he has done plenty of in junior cricket.
After months away recovering following back surgery, with hard rehab work behind him, he is ready to make his comeback. In this final, he will only be batting, as his back does not permit him to bowl in Test matches currently.

This sets up a chance for Beau Webster alongside Green at six. Steven Smith holds the fourth spot after stepping in at the top for David Warner before his retirement, so this one is prime for Green at three. “You grow up playing in the top three or four, and I was the same, batting three until I got to first-class cricket. I’m completely fine with batting at three since I’ve done it my whole life,” Green told ESPN Cricinfo.
Green remains hopeful about this new role with bowling on hold due to back issues. Meanwhile, former Australian captain Aaron Finch has opened about whether Marnus Labuschagne belongs to the team, his strike rate falling and him failing to play aggressively. Labuschagne, who is averaging just 28.33 in this WTC cycle, sees Finch saying, “You can’t let world-class bowlers bowl at you endlessly.”

Having with Sam Konstas vying for a place and Green potentially at No. 3, Labuschagne has some stiff competition before the final.
