The West Indies were thrashed in the third Test against Australia in Kingston and were bowled out for 27. They lost by 176 runs and the series 0-3. Many West Indies fans are upset.
Former cricketer Carl Hooper expressed his disappointment and asked about Daren Sammy’s time as coach. Hooper said the team will have another tough series against India soon and recovery won’t be easy.
Hooper said the loss to Australia wasted years of work and progress because the team fell apart so badly. He criticized the team’s lack of improvement under Sammy who won two T20 World Cups as captain.
Sammy told ABC Sport, It’s been so disappointing. I’m angry, I’m upset because I think we were building something a few years ago. And then we had wholesale changes. And to see this as the end result is like what we’ve done for the last two, three years in trying to build something has just sort of gone up in flames today.”
Hooper added, “We were building something under the former head coach, Andre Coley. Then we removed him and brought in Daren Sammy who was our white-ball coach. He’s now the all-format coach. And now, you sort of take one step forward and then, I think, two steps backward. Where do you go from here?”

Hooper said the West Indies need to get ready for the Test series against India to try and improve.
He said, We’ve got India coming up in a couple of months — a three-Test series — it’s going to be tough… So you just have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try to get ready for India.”
Before India, the West Indies will play a five-match T20I series against Australia later this month starting July 20 at Sabina Park in Kingston.
