The Perth Scorchers have officially announced the signing of England’s promising 20-year-old all-rounder Freya Kemp for the approaching 11th season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The inclusion of Kemp comes as a replacement for Chloe Tryon, who had to withdraw following national commitments.
A left-hander by batting and left-arm medium pacer by bowling, Kemp shines through for Sussex, Southern Vipers, and Southern Brave. Exceptional performances at the domestic level attracted national selectors, who saw through her talent and potential, granting her a call-up to represent England at just 17 years of age.
Freya Kemp then made her international debut in July 2022 in a T20I series against South Africa. Later that same year, she featured in ODIs against India, showing her capabilities with both bat and ball. However, she had faced a setback in the initial stages of her international career because of a back stress fracture, signs of resilience were demonstrated as she bounced back into competitive cricket, turning into one of the most promising young all-rounders in women’s cricket.

One that Kemp cornered on a platform and sold was a T20I against India in 2022, a fabulous knock of 51 not out widely praised and displaying the capability to hold under pressure. Her hard-hitting batting coupled with left-arm seam bowling bring value to whichever side she represents.
In relation to recent form, it’s hot hot hot for Kemp. She scored 298 runs for the 2025 Women’s One-Day Cup, having played six matches-a nice average of 59.60 and a wicked strike rate of 125.73. The stats truly describe her as the player that changes the game in the shorter format. She will definitely gain more from the experience of playing alongside Sophie Devine for Southern Brave in The Hundred 2025 as they join forces again for WBBL11 with the Scorchers.
Kade Harvey, General Manager High Performance for the Scorchers, thrilled at Kemp joining, said she had been on their radar even before the draft. He cited the strength she brings to the batting order and said she strikes an aggressive style that will match well with the fast pace at the WACA Ground. Kemp added that she was “really looking forward to calling Perth home” and can’t wait to meet teammates and help team in winning title”.
With Kemp on board, the Scorchers not only gain a fantastic all-rounder but also one who is available throughout the season, which is a big advantage when compared with some overseas players tied up with international commitments. Although it is unfortunate that Tryon is unavailable for this series against Ireland, the signing of Kemp comes at an opportune time to infuse the squad with new energy, talent, and enthusiasm.
As WBBL11 prepares for yet another captivating season of women’s cricket, all eyes will be on Freya Kemp in her glowing orange Perth Scorchers jersey. Her entry into the team perhaps marks a start to a very exciting chapter in her career and a considerable push toward the Scorchers’ title aspirations.
