Cricket South Africa had changed its mind. Now, players bound for the World Test Championship will stay in India till the IPL playoffs and finals are concluded. Earlier, the South African board had instructed its players to convene on May 26 and depart for England. However, The Age reports that BCCI managed to convince them to permit the players to remain until the league is done on June 3.
Soldierting, Cricket South Africa’s cricket director, had some time ago stated, “We’re finalizing our plan with IPL and BCCI, and May 26 is our deadline for the Test players to return.” Then proceeded to take a step back, mentioning that talks between BCCI and Cricket South Africa were going well and confirmed that training would resume on June 3.

Correction, he said,”The squad will resume training for the game on June 3rd. Discussions are going on at higher levels. We are focusing on preparations for the WTC final.” If the South African players remain involved with the IPL in India, very little time will be left for them to prepare for WTC finals, in contrast to their Australian counterparts, who will not have to leave India and can prepare for the finals.
The South African team was scheduled to have a warm-up match on June 3 with Zimbabwe, but with this new schedule coming up, that warm-up might also get rescheduled.
