Wednesday was a very quiet day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh. A two-day practice match between BCB Red and BCB Green started but the atmosphere was off. Usually these matches get a lot of media attention but this time there were hardly any reporters or photographers around. The stadium was empty and calm.
The Bangladesh team started their training for the Sri Lanka tour a few days ago even with the Eid holidays. Maybe that’s why the fans didn’t turn up like they do for practice sessions. Originally this match was supposed to be between the national team and the ‘A’ team but things changed and the players picked for the Sri Lanka tour were divided into two teams.
What was surprising was that there were so few reporters, even less than during past sessions without fans. Normally the coaches keep a close eye on the players in practice matches but today they were more relaxed, walking along the boundary.
