South Africa is set for a massive finish, 69 runs to get on Day 4 as Dale Steyn pointed out on Friday. Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma have put the Proteas on the brink of making history at the World Test Championship Final 2025. They haven’t won an ICC event in 27 years so this could be the one.
Markram batted well, 100 off 155 balls, Bavuma was cramping and scored 65. By the end of the day South Africa was 213 for 2. When the two batsmen walked off the field they were given a standing ovation at the Home of Cricket.
Steyn said it was a great day of cricket. The pitch had settled, the weather was nice and it felt like a classic English day. He said the first two days had been tough for the players. Today was much easier but warned tomorrow could be tough again. Whether it’s easy to bat or becomes tricky again is anyone’s guess but one thing is for sure this Test match has been a thriller for the last three days.

In the press conference after Steyn’s comments, Australia’s coach Daniel Vettori said it’s a big wicket at Lord’s. It really shows how important these last few overs can be in a match that’s already been full of drama.
