All-rounder Dasun Shanaka got himself into trouble after Sri Lanka Cricket initiated a probe against him for allegedly faking concussion to be out for a domestic match in Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. Shanaka was the former captain of the white-ball formats of Sri Lanka and left the three-day match against Moors Sports Club on the second day’s play after playing for the Sinhalese Sports Club under the Major League Tournament. It is now reported that match referee Wendell Labrooy had been incorrectly lead into thinking that a concussion existed on the part of Shanaka to approve a substitute.
“SSH (Shanaka’s first-class team) would be conducting their own investigations”, said SLC CEO Ashely De Silva, revealing a truth to the case through EPSNCricinfo.
He was one of the three outfield players called back by the SSC for the match against Moors to save some face against relegation.
The 33-year-old bowled 21 overs on days one and two against the Moors, to finish – not out at 39 at the end of the day’s play.
On Day three, Shanaka made 123 runs in 87 balls before he left the field.
But he was not available for the second innings of Moors team when they were actually playing.
But that was hours before Shanaka was on the field for the Capital team in an ILT20 match against Dubai Capitals, soon braving 34 off only 12 balls, praised as an exemplary show of commitment towards the game in a tough schedule.
He went on to play three more matches as the Capitals eventually won the title and scored 21 off just 10 balls in the chase of 190.
