Deep Dasgupta, the former Indian cricketer, didn’t hold back his feelings about some Pakistani players’ actions during the India vs Pakistan match in the Super Four stage. India won by 6 wickets, chasing down 172 without much trouble. But it wasn’t just the match that was talking point.
There were quite a few tense moments during the match, with some words exchanged between Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. But what really got people riled up was Sahibzada Farhan’s gesture of pretending to shoot a gun with his bat and Haris Rauf making a falling plane gesture with a 6-0 reference, presumably related to past match outcomes between the two countries.

Dasgupta didn’t mince words on his YouTube channel. What Farhan did was just not right. How can you be so insensitive? He played well and got a half-century, but that kind of celebration is just not on. People have died and families are grieving. How can you act like that? he asked.
He said this kind of behaviour is childish. At this level it’s not just about how good you are, it’s about how mature you are and what you’re thinking. The way they’re behaving shows that the rivalry isn’t really there. At least not in a mature way. And if this keeps up, it never will be, Dasgupta said.
He made it clear he wasn’t happy with the Pakistani team’s gestures he thought were insensitive. He even said he thought there was a big difference in maturity between the two sides.
I agree with what Suryakumar Yadav said after the game. There’s no real competition there and can’t be when you’re comparing adults to children. Just look at how the two teams reacted and you’ll see what I mean, Dasgupta said.
