India wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel had a chat with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after he scored his first Test century in England during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley on Friday. Jurel said Jaiswal was determined to score runs in England even during the India ‘A’ tour before the series. That’s what makes him special.
Jaiswal scored 101 in his first innings off 159 balls as India ended the day at 359/3. He hit 16 fours and a six and batted through the pain of severe hand cramps. This is his third century in his first Test in a new country, after West Indies and Perth in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

In the video shared by BCCI, Jurel recalled a conversation with Jaiswal from their India A days where Yashasvi said he had to score runs in England no matter what the conditions. “Even when the ball was swinging a lot, you wanted that challenge in nets. I think that determination is what sets you apart. I’ve seen it since we were kids,” Jurel said. He then asked Jaiswal what he was like off the field.
Jaiswal chuckled and said, “You tell them!” He added, “I don’t do much. When I need to be serious I focus on my preparation and keep my mind calm. That really helps me.”

He said he is committed to giving his best for his team and country and enjoys practice to get ready for matches. “Every ball I face in practice is important when I’m under pressure,” he said. After playing two games against England Lions, India ‘A’ had an intra-squad match against the first 11 and Jaiswal found that helpful. “Harshit Rana and Bumrah were bowling really well and I wasn’t scoring easily but I kept at it. That built my confidence and showed me I can get through tough times,” he said.
