Shubman Gill, who had a successful Test series against England, will captain the North Zone team in the 2025 Duleep Trophy. The team has other international players like Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.
Due to India’s busy schedule, the North Zone selectors have named replacements for players involved in international duties. Shubham Rohilla will replace Gill, Gurnoor Brar will replace Arshdeep, and Anuj Thakral will replace Harshit. The selectors have also named seven stand-by players to add depth to the squad.
North Zone will play East Zone in the first quarterfinal match of the 2025 Duleep Trophy at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru from August 28 to 31.
Gill played in the Duleep Trophy last year, he captained the India A team in the first match. His team lost to Abhimanyu Easwaran led India B team by 76 runs. In that first match of the 2024 Duleep Trophy, Gill scored 25 runs off 43 balls in the first innings and 21 runs off 35 balls in the second.
The Duleep Trophy is back to its original format, with six teams from different zones: Central, East, West, North, South and North East. This format gives players from each zone more chances to play. BCCI decided to revive the zonal format to give fair opportunities to all players.

Gill who is 25 years old had a good Test series against England, he was the top run-scorer with 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. He scored four centuries in the series.
In domestic cricket Gill has also captained Punjab in Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament but his captaincy was short lived. He led Punjab in two matches of Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament, the team won one match and lost the other under his leadership. Earlier this year Gill captained Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025. The team reached Eliminator but lost to Mumbai Indians (MI)
