The England Cricket Board recently announced the squad for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground from 22 to 25 May. Captain Ben Stokes is available to lead the team after passing a hamstring injury test, having last played a Test match against New Zealand during the previous World Test Championship series- great for him to be back on the field.
In other exciting news, the squad has seen the inclusion of two thrilling new capped players: Sam Cook and Jordan Cox, both of Essex. Right-arm fast bowler Sam Cook has been well recognized at the domestic level and now has 318 first-class wickets at an incredible average of 19.77. He also made an unforgettable impression earlier this year during the England Lions tour in Australia, claiming 13 wickets in three matches.

Jordan Cox has also been raved about owing to his performance in the ongoing County Championship. He has managed a whopping 918 runs in 11 matches with four centuries and two half-centuries. That’s quite something!
Wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith returns to the Test fold while Josh Tongue is back after featuring last in the Ashes series in Australia in 2023. Having taken a break to welcome his first child, Jamie is now back playing for England, which is wonderful.
England would like to start this Test match with great enthusiasm after suffering much in the last ICC Champions Trophy, which took place in 2025. Thereafter, it has a big five-Test series against India starting June 20 following the Zimbabwe Test.
Here’s a rundown of the squad: Ben Stokes (captain), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Sam Cook, Jordan Cox, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, and Josh Tongue. It’s shaping up to be an exciting time for cricket fans!
