After 18 years of disappointment and playoff heartbreak, Virat Kohli finally reached the top of his IPL dream. As fireworks lit up the Ahmedabad sky, he held the IPL trophy tightly as if it was the missing piece he had been chasing since 2008. Faf du Plessis, his former captain and teammate at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was watching over the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC) and shared his thoughts on this big win.
Speaking to Sports Yaari, Faf said, “Virat Kohli is an icon of the game. No one deserved the IPL trophy more than him and I’m really happy for him.”
Faf and Kohli played together for RCB from 2022 to 2024, Faf led the team to two playoff appearances but the trophy had always eluded them until now. Kohli’s loyalty is rare; he stuck with the team through the highs and lows. He kept scoring runs, racking up Orange Caps and records but that trophy kept slipping away until this season.

When the final whistle blew and Punjab Kings were defeated by RCB, Kohli let his emotions out. It was the end of almost 2 decades of faith, hard work and resilience. Now that the trophy is finally in his hands, it feels like Kohli’s journey is complete. He has achieved it all – for India, for RCB, for the fans and most importantly for himself. Any critics who used to say he hadn’t won an IPL title can no longer say that.
