Steve Smith had a rough moment in the World Test Championship Final when he hurt himself trying to catch a Temba Bavuma ball. He walked off the field straight away and looked in a lot of pain. Cricket Australia have now updated us on his injury and he has a compound dislocation of his right pinky finger. He’s been taken to hospital for further treatment and it’s looking unlikely he’ll play in the West Indies Test series starting June 25.
Smith hurt himself in the slips during the South Africa game at Lord’s. The medical team looked at him on the field before sending him for x-rays. So he’s out of the WTC final.
The injury happened in the 20th over of South Africa’s second innings. Mitchell Starc was bowling and Bavuma edged the ball. It was an easy catch but Smith was late and dropped it and hurt his finger in the process. After getting some help from the physio he decided to walk off.

We don’t know how long he’ll be out for. With only 12 days to go until the West Indies series he might miss the first Test of the next WTC cycle.
