Manvinder Bisla, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has spoken out about the unfair treatment of Gautam Gambhir by social media fans regarding his role in India’s Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy win. He pointed out that Gambhir was blamed for the loss at Headingley but not praised for the win at Edgbaston. Bisla said opinions change very quickly and asked people to give Gambhir credit too.
At Headingley, Gambhir used the same batting-depth-first approach that didn’t work in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India didn’t have enough support for Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur didn’t contribute much with bat or ball and India lost by 5 wickets. Despite calls to include a wicket-taker like Kuldeep Yadav, the team stuck to their plan and also left out specialist batter Sai Sudharsan.
The Edgbaston team with 3 fast bowlers and 2 all-rounders did better than the English team. Akash Deep took 10 wickets and Mohammed Siraj took 7. The batters also played a big part in setting up the win, with Shubman Gill scoring 269 and 162 in the two innings. India won by 336 runs.
Before the Test: @GautamGambhir messed up the XI.

After the win: @ShubmanGill era begins.
Narratives change faster than the scorecard.
PS: Both are leaders — credit goes to whole team for this famous win. 🔥🇮🇳#INDvsENGTest #famouswin #TeamIndia

Gambhir has been under pressure since he became the coach after KKR’s IPL 2024 win. Under him India won a home series against Bangladesh but then lost the next two series against New Zealand at home and Australia away. The loss to New Zealand was a humiliating defeat. He’s the 5th youngest captain in India’s Test history. Not only filling Rohit’s shoes but also Virat’s number 4. The next 3 Tests starting from tomorrow at Lord’s will decide the future of Indian cricket.
