Ahead of the ongoing first T20I between Australia and England, captain Alyssa Healy and all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner have been ruled out of the match. Georgia Voll, who is also wicketkeeper just like Healy, is making her T20I debut for the former T20 World Cup winners. The six-time T20 World Cup winners smashed their arch-rivals in the three-match ODI series by 3-0.
Voll was called up for the T20I series on the back of her good performance for former WBBL champions, Sydney Thunders last year. She scored 330 runs at a strike rate of 144.73. Meanwhile, talking about Healy, a statement from Cricket Australia states that the wicketkeeper batter’s injury will be assessed to determine her participation in the series.
“CA’s medical team is consulting with specialists to develop an appropriate management plan over the coming days.
“Her availability for the remainder of the series will be assessed as more information becomes available.”
The 34-year-old ruptured her plantar fascia during the T20 World Cup last October. She missed the league match against India and the dreaded semi final against South Africa. She also missed the 10th season of the WBBL played last year. On the other hand, Gardner has been replaced by Grace Harris in the team. The former recently hit a match-winning hundred against England.
Australia XI: Georgia Voll, Beth Mooney (wk), Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Annabel Sutherland, Tahlia McGrath (c), Grace Harris, Georgia Wareham, Alana King, Kim Garth, Megan Schutt
Georgia Voll has played three ODIs for Australia
The 21-year-old made her ODI debut against India in December last year. She hit a hundred and averages 86.50 after scoring 173 runs. On her T20I debut, she hit 21 off 11 balls before being trapped lbw by Lauren Bell at the time of writing. Voll opened the batting with Beth Mooney and the former was replaced at the crease by Phoebe Litchfield.
