Glenn Phillips, the all-rounder for Gujarat Titans, has headed back to New Zealand after suffering a groin injury during a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. The Gujarat Titans released a statement wishing him a quick recovery. It was tough to watch him in pain, and the team’s physio rushed to his side right away. After some time, a teammate helped him walk off the field.
Phillips was picked up by GT at last year’s mega auction for his starting price of Rs 2 crore. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the chance to play in any of the IPL 2025 games before this injury forced him to leave the tournament early. Right now, there’s no word on who GT might bring in to replace him.
Adding to their challenges, GT is also missing fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who went back to South Africa for a personal issue. As things stand, the team’s foreign players are Jos Buttler from England, Sherfane Rutherford from the West Indies, Gerald Coetzee from South Africa, and the Afghan duo of Rashid Khan and Karim Janat.
Despite these setbacks, GT, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, is doing quite well and sits at the top of the points table, with four wins and only one loss in their first five matches this season. Their next game is against the Lucknow Super Giants at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Following that, they’ll take on the Delhi Capitals at their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on April 19.
