The Indian Premier League (IPL) is not just another cricket event; it is a huge moneymaker. Of all the T20 leagues across the globe, IPL is the richest. The BCCI makes its money from advertisers, sponsors, broadcasters, ticket sellers, and streaming services.
After the conclusion of IPL 2025, it was a matter of great joy for the crowd, for Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally got their first title in 18 years by defeating the Punjab Kings in the final. Not only the crowd but also the BCCI was in utmost joy because of the cash flow from the tournament.
Now, how much did the BCCI in fact make from IPL 2025? Let’s analyze:
1. Title Sponsorship: RS 500 Crore
Tata Group took the title sponsorship for 2024 to 2028 for a whopping price of RS 2,500 crore. That means Tata alone is paying RS 500 crore per season.
2. Ticket Sales and Matchday Revenue
Ticket sales, merchandise, and all that sell on matchday also bring in steady cash. While each team operates its own ticket sales, the BCCI gets a cut from the pot as well and retention is 20% of income from central sponsorships, ticket sales, and other central revenues, plus 12.5% of licensing fees from each team, minus payouts to each team of INR 425 crores, with the teams able to earn further based on performance.
During the fiscal year 2024, BCCI garnered revenues of approximately RS 20,686 crore, up by INR 4,200 crore from RS 16,486 crore earned in 2023.
