Young Indian players depart for England in the wake of the IPL for five Test matches. The Test series will officially start on June 20 with the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, between India and England. Rohit Sharma is retired, and India looks for a new Test captain. According to Sports Tak, the BCCI would be announcing the test captain and test squad in a press conference on May 24. The press conference will be held on Saturday at 12 noon IST and will be headed by BCCI selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar.
It seems young batter Shubman Gill is the top choice for Test captain. Jasprit Bumrah would have probably made for a good candidate given his leadership showed well during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy; however, the BCCI could have ruled the man out of captaincy consideration due to his constant injury concerns.
This Test series against England will be the new World Test Championship cycle’s first step for India. The first match will be played at Headingley, followed by matches at Birmingham, London, and Manchester. Before the start of the much-awaited tour, the Indian team will play a four-day warm-up match from June 13 to June 16 at Kent County Cricket Ground, Beckenham.
