Yashasvi Jaiswal has joined the elite club of Indian openers and the third youngest to score centuries in both England and Australia. At 23, he started the five-match Test series on a high, scoring 101 runs in the first session itself. He put together 91 runs with KL Rahul and then 129 with the new captain Shubman Gill. He now has five Test centuries. When asked which one is his favorite, he said he enjoys all of them but the century at Headingley is special for him as it was his first in England.
I love making centuries, wherever they are. Each one feels special. But yeah, my first century in England is definitely a moment to remember, Jaiswal said at the post-day press conference.
He also talked about his partnership with Gill which steadied India’s innings after two quick wickets fell. Jaiswal said they communicated well, took it one session at a time and maximized runs. We talked a lot out there. It was great to bat with him. He was calm and composed which really helped me, he said.
Also a video of Jaiswal and Gill discussing calling for runs after Day 1 of the first Test went viral. Jaiswal said he usually looks to take a run after hitting the ball and told Gill to just say no if he felt otherwise.
